Our Vision of
Green Town USA,
Coming to your NJ Community.
Congratulations
to Hamilton Township in Mercer County,
our 2006 Green Town award recipient!
Just
strolling down the main street of "Green Town" one can sense
the difference. The clean air, the lack of smog, the bikeways and friendly
pedestrian walkways announce that people living here care about their
environment.
People
sitting on the benches under the trees in the town center gaze at the
native plants and flowers that are part of the healthy plant communities
and provide habitat for birds, small animals and native insects. Residents
appreciate that the lawns surrounding the town hall, police and fire
stations are natural ecosystems not poisoned by pesticides. Citizens
of Green Town know that living in a healthy natural ecosystem is healthy
for them as well.
Drinking
from a fountain in Green Town is a healthy activity. Bottled water sales
are down as residents know their drinking water is monitored and the
watersheds providing this water are protected.
Green
Town has a center where people gather and walk to stores and appointments.
Green Town's mass transit offers financial incentives for citizens to
use public transit instead of cars. A low emission police car drives
by and the shrinking number of SUV's attests to Green Town's love of
clean air.
In
Green Town an Environmental Commission studies ways to make the air,
water and land use healthier and safer. Open monthly environmental meetings
give residents a chance to voice concerns. Green Town's master plan
directs development in a sustainable way.
Living in a Green
Town means living in harmony with all living things on the planet.
It means not contributing to the environmental burden the planet already
carries. It's a great place to raise a family, protect a home investment
and enjoy nature. Ask your mayor and council members if you can live
in a Green Town.
All New Jerseyans
deserve it!
